    Culled from headline news:

    http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2012/01/18/poll-question-canadas-marijuana-laws/

With the greatest majority of Canadians in favor of decriminalizing or legalizing the use or sale of marijauna, the question is not whether you personally would use it, but what it could do for our economy! Think of the cross border traffic it would generate! Think of how many tourists would visit! Canada law makers are already hard at work on our gay marriage laws making it so that visitors who come to Canada to get married will have their civil union recognized in ther own countries. This “not in my backyard” mentality guides US lawmakers. Why not take advantage of our more liberal society and take advantage of the tourist trade?
If Canada does legalize pot, it would perhaps help build all kinds of green houses dedicated to clean, undoctored marijauna and restrict its use to adults.
I have never in my many decades of life ever seen a fight erupt with people who were indulging in this currently illegal vice.
And, it would make the sales of tacos and pizzas grow beyond belief!

I think that allowing citizens to grow their own is the answer, with pot growing in every back yard we will solve climate change in one stroke.

Maybe this should be on the Municipal taxation thread, because we definitely won’t need as many police.

I checked in on the Windsor Star poll, and while I appreciate that it in not scientific, it does show 88% of the respondents are in favour of decriminalising or legalising. As Mr Bumble said in Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist “the law is an ass” although I have to admit he was not referring to pot. However with so many people flouting the drug laws as they relate to pot, it would seem an apt description.

I think prohibition proved that the easiest way to get criminal gangs out of the drug trade is to legalise it. It also proved that enterprising Canadians know how to take full advantage of stupid laws in the USA.

Thank you, Michael! I’m not sure how many Canadians in this region appreciate how much money (with government consent) was made brewing and selling whiskey to the US who thought they could control it. (The Hiram Walker story is a great bio-pic on A&E.)
Excellent points on the climate change problem as well – and don’t forget the stalks make great ethanol!

Everyone in the region should take the Canadian Club building tour, worth every penny of the $5, considering they give you a tasting too. The story behind that building and the Walker family is just fascinating
