The crew at 99.1 CKXS is preparing for an on-air interview with newly appointed Chief Administrative Officer with Chatham-Kent, Don Shropshire.

Don is set to hit the airwaves on Thursday (Feb. 2) around 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

We would like your input for what we should be asking Don!

Please feel free to add to this discussion with your questions, and we will do our best to include them with our LIVE on-air interview!

Here’s a link to the original story announcing Don’s hire: http://ckdp.ca/2012/01/20/shropshire-named-new-cao-of-chatham-kent/

I have a question for Don, First congratulations on the new role. I have a strong feeling you are very aware of the responsibilities and challenges that lie ahead for you.

I understand that you have a very strong focus on Economic development – and feel that is where we need to be. It has to be focused, on realistic development and truly sustainable. Not pie in the sky dreams about another University coming here, it has to be more focused on Business not more governmental agencies.

My main concern and question for you would be around the apparent decay of our local society, especially around the daily barrage of articles of crime, drugs, and yesterday a very small business that was completely wiped out of his collector’s cards. I do think the Police do an excellent job, but worry about the increase in these activities. So we lost a business, lost more taxes. I don’t have an answer but request your thoughts on this negative trend in CK.

Thanks Sir and best of luck, I am counting on you!

I have many times come into contact with commenters etc. who do not really understand what the CAO of Chatham-Kent actually does. – There are varying degrees of awareness it seems of the CAO job description, which may lead to misconceptions and misinformation.

While it is obvious to list WHO the CAO is on the CK website, it might also be helpful to citizens to have a summary of the roles in which individuals serve. – It may cut down on mis-directed queries, and might also make it more likely for a citizen to interact in a positive way with officials – if they know who the right one to approach is.

Maybe Mr. Shropshire could be asked during the interview, or perhaps an answer could be posted here by muni staff before hand, so people know what kinds of questions to put to Don during his interview.
